Aizawl: Four government health facilities, Khawlailung PHC, Bairabi PHC, Lawipu UPHC, and Sihphir UPHC, have been newly certified under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) for excellence in service delivery.
According to Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) under the Health & Family Welfare Department, the four centres achieved impressive scores during the rigorous national-level assessment. Sihphir UPHC scored 93.93%, Khawlailung PHC 93.84%, Lawipu UPHC 93.63%, and Bairabi PHC 84.89%, placing them among the top-performing government health facilities across the country.
With these additions, Mizoram now has 28 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and 5 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) that have received NQAS National Certification, bringing the state’s total to 41 certified government health facilities. In addition, 18 other health centres currently hold State-level NQAS Certification, while three are awaiting results for the national-level assessment.
Health Minister Lalrinpuii expressed appreciation for the continued excellence demonstrated by Mizoram’s health centres, noting that their consistent performance among India’s best is a source of pride. She lauded the dedication and teamwork of healthcare professionals across the state and encouraged all certified hospitals to continue delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The minister also urged the public to make full use of these certified centres and build awareness of the services available.
NQAS Certification, administered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, involves a comprehensive three-tier evaluation system. The most stringent level, National External Assessment, requires a minimum score of 70 percent to qualify for certification. Certified facilities are evaluated on parameters including infection control, clinical care quality, patient safety, cleanliness, responsiveness, and the efficiency of support services.
