Aizawl: As part of a nationwide initiative, Mizoram today launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA)—a comprehensive pre-Kharif campaign aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience and empowering farmers. The campaign, which runs from May 29 to June 12, 2025, was launched at the Auditorium of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Selesih, Aizawl.
The inaugural state-level event was attended by key dignitaries and government officials.
Chief Guest C. Lalsawivunga, Minister of Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, underscored the campaign’s importance in helping farmers tackle climate change. He emphasized the need for wider dissemination of information on climate-resilient crop varieties, soil and water conservation methods, and contingency strategies for both excessive and deficient rainfall—delivered in language accessible to all farmers.
Guest of Honour P.C. Vanlalruata, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Irrigation & Water Resources, and Co-operation, highlighted the role of scientific research in finding practical, on-the-ground solutions for farmers. He called for greater awareness of government schemes, soil health assessments, suitable crop selection, and the judicious use of balanced fertilizers.
Chairperson Ramdinliani, IAS, Special Secretary (Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Horticulture), urged scientists to fully commit to the campaign. She described VKSA as “an important step in recognizing farmers as nutrition providers and stabilizing their income.” She noted that the campaign provides scientists with a vital opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Indian agriculture.
At the district level, VKSA was launched by Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials. In Mizoram, a total of 1,403 farmers and 239 officials, including scientists, participated in the campaign’s launch. Each district formed three outreach teams, each visiting three villages. These teams were flagged off by the respective Chief Guests.
In Hnahthial and Lunglei districts, the VKSA campaign was launched at the Hnahthial DC Office Complex, where three teams were dispatched. Collectively, the teams covered nine of the 99 targeted villages across the two districts on the first day.
Each team conducted awareness sessions on various central agricultural schemes, providing farmers with crucial information. Discussions were also held on local challenges in crop production and animal husbandry.
Following the flag-off, expert sessions were conducted by officials from agriculture and allied departments, followed by Farmer-Scientist Interaction sessions, which facilitated open dialogue and knowledge exchange.
