Aizawl: As part of a nationwide outreach campaign, a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was held in Aizawl on Wednesday to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. Organized by the Mizoram unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the rally focused on the themes “Citizens for National Security” and “Operation Sindoor.”
The yatra began at the War Memorial near Treasury Square and concluded at Vanpa Hall, drawing participation from BJP workers, ex-servicemen, and family members of serving soldiers.
State BJP President Vanlalhmuaka, addressing the crowd, said the people of Mizoram had joined the nationwide Tiranga Yatra to show their deep respect for the armed forces. He paid special tribute to the soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor, highlighting the role of brave Mizo servicemen.
“Mizoram is proud of its sons serving in the armed forces. Churches across the state have offered prayers for their safety,” Vanlalhmuaka said.
He condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where civilians were brutally targeted, stating, “Pakistan-supported terrorists carried out this heinous act. India does not ignore terrorism or the nations that shelter it. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, our country gave a strong and appropriate response.”
Lalrinliana Sailo, former Assembly Speaker and a State BJP Core Group Member, also spoke at the event. He stressed that while India is a democracy that does not seek conflict, it was necessary to respond decisively to the attacks.
“Innocent lives were lost in Pahalgam, and India had to show its strength. The country stood united, and even opposition leaders supported the Prime Minister’s response,” he said.
