Aizawl: Mizoram’s most significant cultural festival, Chapchar Kut, was celebrated with much enthusiasm today at AR Ground. The event saw Chief Minister Lalduhoma as the Kut Pa (Father of the Festival) and Art & Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga as the Kut Thlengtu (Host of the Festival). This year’s theme, “Zo Nun Ze Mawi – Hawihhawmna” (The Beautiful Zo Behaviour – Respect for Others), highlighted the importance of respect as a fundamental value in Mizo society.
In his address, Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of preserving Mizo ancestral traditions, particularly the practice of Hawihhawmna, which underscores respect in both words and deeds. He pointed out that respect for elders, selfless service, mutual understanding, and helping one another in times of need are core values vital for maintaining social harmony and unity. The Chief Minister also spoke about the enduring wisdom of Mizo ancestors, which continues to guide both community well-being and economic progress.
The celebration was marked by colorful cultural performances from a range of soloists and groups, including the Mizo Cultural Organization, MZP Choir, Central YMA, Art & Culture Department, PC Girls’ School, Assam Cultural Troupe (NEZCC), Nagaland Cultural Troupe (NEZCC), Fiji Cultural Troupe (ICCR), Bawm Cultural Troupe, and the Hmar Cultural Troupe. The evening was further enlivened with performances by local music bands, showcasing the vibrancy and richness of Mizo culture and heritage.
The Kut’s official host C. Lalsawivunga and Central YMA President Lalhmachhuana also addressed the gathering, while Col. Lalhmingliana, Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army, led a prayer of blessing. The vote of thanks was delivered by Carol VLMS Dawngkimi, Director of the Art & Culture Department, bringing the celebrations to a heartfelt close.
