Aizawl: Mizoram’s Land Revenue and Settlement Minister, B. Lalchhanzova, is currently on a visit to Karnataka to study the functioning of its advanced revenue department. During his visit, he met with Karnataka’s Revenue Minister, Krishna Byre Gowda, on Wednesday, where they discussed the potential for fostering better relations between Mizoram and Karnataka, particularly given the large number of Mizos residing in Bengaluru.
Minister B. Lalchhanzova explained that Karnataka was chosen for this study trip because it is recognized as one of the leading states in India for land revenue administration, particularly in its adoption of modern technology. The Mizoram Revenue Department is keen to learn from Karnataka’s best practices and apply similar advancements back home.
The delegation from Mizoram, including Minister Lalchhanzova and officials, was warmly welcomed by key officials from Karnataka’s Revenue Department, including Rajendra Kumar Kataria, Principal Secretary, Sunil Kumar P, Revenue Commissioner, and J. Manjunath, Commissioner of Survey, Settlement & Land Records Department. The visit, spanning from October 23 to 26, will include field visits to gain practical insights into Karnataka’s land revenue system.
While acknowledging the efforts of Mizoram’s Land Revenue Department and the cooperation of its staff, Lalchhanzova admitted there are certain shortcomings in the current system that need improvement. He emphasized the importance of enhancing Mizoram’s revenue administration to ensure smoother functioning and development.
“Though our staff work diligently, there are areas where our current setup and system require reform. We believe Karnataka, a leader in revenue administration, offers valuable lessons that we can apply in Mizoram to improve our department,” Lalchhanzova stated.
