Aizawl: On Wednesday morning, the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Art & Culture Department of Mizoram, organised the ‘Bharat Ko Jano’ programme at the Vairengte Jt. YMA Playground.
Mizoram Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the event as the chief guest, while Nagaland Governor La Ganesan served as the guest of honor.
In his speech, Governor Kambhampati emphasized the strategic importance of Vairengte as the gateway to Mizoram and its role in fostering relations with Assam. He highlighted the town’s unique responsibility to promote brotherhood and unity among Indians, stating, “You are the torchbearers of the values that Mizoram stands for, such as peace, honesty, and hospitality.”
Kambhampati further proclaimed Mizoram as “an island of peace” amidst surrounding chaos, citing the resilience of the Mizoram Peace Accord after two decades of insurgency. He expressed pride in the state’s commitment to peace and cultural diversity, noting, “In North East India alone, there are over 200 ethnic communities, with more than 220 dialects being spoken.”
He stressed the importance of cultural exchange programs in strengthening bonds among different communities and praised the NEZCC for its efforts in organizing such events. The Governor also encouraged attendees to utilize various Central Government schemes to contribute to the nation’s development as it aims for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan echoed Kambhampati’s sentiments, underscoring the Northeast’s strategic significance as a cultural hub for India. He spoke about the need for unity among the states in the region.
Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, Director of NEZCC, also addressed the audience, highlighting the participation of diverse cultural representatives from Mizoram, Assam, Tripura, and Bihar.
The event was attended by local dignitaries, including DC Kolasib Robert C. Lalhmangaiha and Sr. SP Kolasib David H. Lalthangliana, and featured various cultural dances, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
