Aizawl: The organizing committee for the Leitlangpui Music Festival 2024 convened on Wednesday at the Lunglei District Commissioner Conference Hall to finalize arrangements for the upcoming event.
Organizing Committee Secretary & Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Donny Lalruatsanga chaired the program and expressed his happiness that the Leitlangpui Music Festival 2024 was being initiated by the state government, particularly the Tourism Department. He emphasized the festival’s potential to promote local culture and tourism, noting the importance of cooperation among stakeholders.
Organizing Committee Vice Chairman, Tourism Department Director R. Lalrodingi, also spoke at the program, mentioning that every year the central government, through the Ministry of Tourism, provides funds for two festivals. This year, the Tourism Department decided to hold the Leitlangpui Music Festival in Lunglei. She stressed the need for cooperation from the district, government departments, and various associations for the success of the festival.
The Tourism Department, Government of Mizoram, aims to develop Lunglei as one of the most preferred tourist destinations in India. Lunglei is one of the oldest towns in Mizoram, first visited through the Demagiri River route in the 1980s. Between 1932 and 1946, Serkawn school authorities organized the famous “Sêrkâwn Concert,” which included music concerts and plays, marking Mizoram’s first-ever entertainment festival.
The Serkawn Concert promoted songwriters and artists, creating a platform for emerging talents. The upcoming Leitlangpui Music Festival pays homage to this rich history by promoting songwriting and artistic performances. Scheduled for November 14 to 16, 2024, the event is set to revive Mizoram’s musical legacy.
The Leitlangpui Music Festival aims to promote tourism beyond natural resources by offering well-organized tourist leisure activities such as music festivals. It seeks to revive and promote songwriting and music composition, embracing both traditional and modern contemporary music. The festival aims to leave a lasting legacy and positively impact the local community through direct and indirect benefits. Additionally, it strives to unify musicians and composers worldwide, helping local artists break into the national and international music industries.
The Department is targeting a string of musical events to promote both traditional and contemporary music. The goal is to unify musicians and composers from different parts of the world, helping local artists break into the national and international music industry. The festival will feature a variety of activities, including music performances, entertainment, workshops, cultural displays, and a food carnival. The event will exclusively showcase artists and bands performing their own original compositions, fostering creativity and originality.
Scheduled to take place at Lunglei Pukpui, the Leitlangpui Music Festival will include a Beat Contest Competition, concerts, food stalls, a museum, and cultural programs. The committee plans to involve various government departments, local communities, and organizations to enhance the festival experience.
The festival will be organized by several sub-committees, including the Media & Publicity Sub-Committee, led by the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) and members of the Mizo Journalists’ Association (MJA) Lunglei District. Other committees, such as the Ushering & Reception and Refreshment Sub-Committees, will also play vital roles in ensuring a smooth event.
The organizing committee acknowledged the contributions of various government departments, NGOs, MJA, Lunglei Ṭhalai Pawl, and Leitlang Film Society, alongside local students and prominent citizens, who have committed to supporting the festival.
