Aizawl: A state-level consultative meeting on the NEC Vision 2047 was held at Aijal Club, Aizawl, organized by NEDFi in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER).
In her address, Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, Additional Secretary of the Planning & Programme Implementation Department, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts from the government, private sector, communities, and other stakeholders to achieve the NEC Vision 2047 goals. She highlighted Mizoram’s potential as a key player in cross-border trade with Myanmar and Bangladesh, while also acknowledging the growing participation of the state’s youth in the entertainment industry, particularly in film and music.
Sherry Lalthangzo, Senior Economic Adviser of NEC, underscored the importance of increasing production in key products like pork to generate export surpluses. She mentioned the upcoming Matabari deep-sea port and noted NIPER’s work on developing species and herbs. Lalthangzo also introduced the NE RACE platform, launched by NEC to support marketing for farmers and the food processing sector, and emphasized DoNER’s efforts in organizing investment summits to attract capital to the region.
S.K. Baruah, Executive Director of NEDFi, informed participants that a committee of 34 experts and 4 core members is actively working on the Vision 2047 document, integrating input from state and central governments. He encouraged attendees to provide their feedback to help shape the plan.
Prof. K.M. Bujarbaruah, a core committee member, gave a detailed presentation on the NEC Vision 2047 Plan, which included feedback from the Government of Mizoram. The presentation was followed by an interactive session with senior officials from various sectors, including government departments, educational institutions, banks, trade bodies, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations.
Later in the evening, the NEDFi team met with the Chief Minister of Mizoram to brief him on the vision document and presented a copy of the draft.
