Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a biker was killed by a rhino near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district on Sunday. The incident was captured on camera by a local.
The victim, identified as 37-year-old Saddam Hussain, a resident of Sonapur Kachutali in Kamrup (Metro) district, was riding his bike from Mayong to Chamata when the rhino, which had strayed out of the sanctuary, began chasing him.
Despite his attempts to flee, the rhino caught up with Saddam near Haduk Bridge, where it fatally attacked him.
A viral video of the incident shows Saddam abandoning his bike and running into an open field as the rhino chases him. Local residents can be heard shouting in an attempt to scare off the animal.

Rhinos are commonly found in several forests across Assam, including the famous Kaziranga National Park. The Assam Forest Department recently reported that the state’s rhino population has grown to over 3,000, a significant increase from around 600 in the 1960s.
