Mizoram has received Rs. 8 crore central aid for refugee relief since 2021

Aizawl: The Mizoram government has secured financial assistance of Rs. 8 crore from the Central government to support over 43,000 refugees from Myanmar, Manipur, and Bangladesh who are currently sheltering in the state, as informed by Home Minister K. Sapdanga in the state legislature on Tuesday.

According to a report by The Mizoram post, in a written reply to a query from opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member Ramthanmawia, Home Minister Sapdanga detailed that Rs. 3 crore was allocated during the previous MNF rule, while an additional Rs. 5 crore has been received under the current government.

“The Rs. 3 crore received during the previous administration was utilized for various relief efforts, including providing basic assistance to refugee camps, humanitarian aid to Myanmar refugees, and raising legal awareness,” Sapdanga informed the assembly. The remaining Rs. 5 crore, he added, has yet to be utilized but is earmarked for further relief measures for the refugees.

According to the state home department, as of August 13, a total of 43,737 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, along with internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Manipur, have taken refuge in different parts of Mizoram.
