Aizawl: In a startling revelation, the Peoples Conference (PC) party has accused eight Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Mizoram of holding offices of profit. The accusation came to light during a media interaction held by the PC party on Friday, where party President Vanlalruata addressed reporters.
Vanlalruata asserted that there are eight individuals currently serving as MLAs in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly who are also holding offices of profit. He emphasized the need for these individuals to be relieved from their posts to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the legislative process.
While the PC party did not disclose the names of the accused MLAs, they stated that efforts are underway to investigate the matter further. Vanlalruata indicated that there might be more individuals involved beyond the initial eight identified.
The essence of disqualification under the office of profit law revolves around the potential for government influence over legislators. Holding an office of profit under the government could compromise an MLA’s ability to fulfill their constitutional duties impartially.

In light of these allegations, the PC party has called for cooperation from all political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Indian National Congress.
