Aizawl: Mizoram registered the highest single-day spike in nearly three months for the second straight day as 903 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 1,45,527, a health department official said on Sunday.
On Saturday, the state reported 852 COVID-19 cases.
The death toll remains at 558, as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said. The single-day positivity rate increased to 15.86 per cent from 15 per cent the previous day, he said.
At least 117 children were among the newly infected people, he said. Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 283, followed by Serchhip (182) and Khawzawl (150), the official said.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,367, while 1,40,602 people have recovered from the infection so far, according to the official. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 96.61 per cent and the death rate is 0.38 per cent.
The northeastern state has so far tested 15.38 lakh samples for COVID-19 and out of this 5,694 samples were tested on Saturday.
According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 7.46 lakh people, including 13,775 children (15-17 years), have been vaccinated till Saturday.
Of the total 7.46 lakh people, 5.94 lakh have received the full dose, she said.
