Aizawl: With 232 new infections, Mizoram’s COVID-19 count crossed the 19,000 mark on Saturday, pushing the number of COVID-19 patients per 1,000 people in the second least populated state in the country to 17, an official statement said.
The COVID-19 death toll in the state now stands at 89, which means at least eight persons in every 1 lakh population as per 2011 Census died due to COVID-19, it said.
Mizoram has population of over 10.91 lakh, according to the 2011 Census.
The total COVID-19 cases in the state now stand at 19,091, which is 1.74 per cent of the total population based on the last census.
The 232 fresh cases were reported from 10 districts with Aizawl district reporting the highest at 135, followed by Kolasib and Lawngtlai with 24 and 19 cases respectively, the statement said.
There are 11 districts in Mizoram.
Fifty-seven new cases were detected through RT-PCT tests and the remaining 175 through Rapid Antigen Tests, it said.
The single-day positivity rate is 5.75 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 4,043 samples tested in the last 24 hours, it said.
49 children were among the newly infected people, the statement said.
Nine patients have travel history and the rest 223 were found to have locally contracted the infection, it said. As many as 124 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and 108 are asymptomatic.

The number of COVID-19 active cases in the state now is 4,448, while 14,554 people have recovered from the infection.
At least 238 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, which is higher than the number of new infections found during the same period.
Mizoram has tested over 4.72 lakh samples so far. The recovery rate is 76.23 per cent and death rate is 0.46 per cent.
As many as 4,59,681 people have been inoculated and of this 53,960 people have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine till Thursday.
