Shillong: A man was detained in Laban on Sunday in connection with the alleged snatching of a pair of gold earrings from a woman.
A video circulating on social media shows a woman with bleeding ears after her gold earrings were allegedly snatched in Laban on Sunday, with locals reportedly gathering in an attempt to nab the alleged culprit.
According to police, the woman was travelling from Anjalee towards Civil Hospital when she was allegedly targeted. A man was apprehended around the time of the incident and subsequently taken for a medical examination.
Police said the examination indicated that the man was addicted to drugs and required hospitalisation for treatment.

As he required medical treatment, police said a notice was issued to him under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directing him to appear before the police whenever required in connection with the case.
Police said he may be arrested in accordance with the law if he fails to comply with the notice.
The pair of gold earrings allegedly involved in the incident was reportedly recovered from an area near the indoor stadium in Laban.
Further investigation into the alleged incident is underway.
