Shillong: Marking the conclusion of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA) has invited residents and concerned citizens to participate in a public dialogue on the city’s growing urban challenges.
The discussion, titled “Why is Shillong Still Stuck?”, will focus on issues such as traffic congestion, public transport, accessibility, inclusion, and the overall experience of navigating Shillong, while also examining the promises and outcomes of the Smart City initiative.
The dialogue follows a discussion held on June 26 on “Building a People’s Digital Infrastructure that Benefits Workers,” organised jointly by the association along with TUR and SAFAR. The programme brought together workers from several districts to deliberate on how digital infrastructure can better serve the interests of workers.
Organisers said the concluding event aims to encourage citizens to move beyond merely expressing frustration over Shillong’s persistent traffic and infrastructure problems and instead engage in constructive discussions to identify practical solutions.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,
