Dr. T.K. Sundara Murthy, a renowned scientist in India’s space research program, led a workshop on “Recent Achievements of ISRO in Space Physics” at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) today. The workshop, organized by the University’s Physics Department, aimed to educate students about ISRO’s significant contributions to the field and inspire future researchers.
Dr. Murthy, accompanied by Mrs. S Bharathi Murthy and Mr. Pranesh Debnath from Vyomika Space (ISRO Space tutor), provided a comprehensive overview of ISRO’s history, highlighting landmark missions like Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan. He detailed the technological advancements made by the organization and their impact on space physics research.
Emphasizing the practical applications of space physics, Dr. Murthy explained how satellite data plays a crucial role in climate monitoring, disaster management, and urban planning. He also shared insights into upcoming missions, generating excitement among the attendees.
With over 40 years of dedicated service to ISRO, Dr. Murthy has played a pivotal role in the organization’s development. Notably, he served as Mission Director and was instrumental in the design and commissioning of communication satellites such as EUTELSAT, HYLAS, and AVANTHI.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, where Dr. Murthy addressed student queries and encouraged them to explore research opportunities within space physics. Undergraduate and postgraduate students engaged in a lively discussion, seeking insights into career paths in space research and the importance of international collaboration in advancing the field.
