Tura: Seven Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally entered India were detained early Monday by alert residents of Boldamgre village in Meghalaya‘s South West Garo Hills. The individuals were handed over to police at the Kalaichar Patrol Post around 6AM.
A Bangladeshi passport, currency, mobile phones, and Bangladeshi SIM cards were recovered from the suspects.
This apprehension is part of ongoing joint efforts by the District Police of South West Garo Hills and the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border. Villagers have been routinely encouraged to report suspicious activities, playing a key role in strengthening border security.
A case has been registered at Mahendraganj Police Station. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Angur Hussain Afrib, Amir Ali, Chand Miah, Md. Bukul Mia, Mir Jahan, Md. Rasel Ali, and Biblop Miah, all hailing from Kurigram district in Bangladesh.

The apprehensions follow similar recent incidents. On September 27, 2024, ten Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Zikzak, South West Garo Hills, while traveling in an auto-rickshaw. On October 8, another Bangladeshi national was apprehended in Bakdagre, with a local resident also arrested for allegedly sheltering the individual.
Local authorities and the BSF remain vigilant in monitoring the border, with ongoing investigations in all cases to prevent further illegal entries.
