Shillong: In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old girl from Thangshalai village in Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, died by suicide after her parents denied her request for a mobile phone.
The incident occurred on September 22, when the girl’s parents reportedly asked her to focus on her studies before allowing her to use the phone.
In a fit of rage, the young girl retreated to her room and hanged herself. She was discovered later that night and declared dead.
The local police confirmed the incident, stating that the body was handed over to the parents following a post-mortem examination.
This tragic case has sparked conversations about mental health and the importance of addressing emotional distress, especially among children.
