Don Bosco Square in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, was abuzz with excitement as the Accentuate Makeup & Hair Academy was officially inaugurated. This academy, dedicated to beauty and aesthetics training, is a significant addition to the Northeast region. The academy is the brainchild of the esteemed makeup artist and hairstylist Badap Hynniewta and was inaugurated by the Minister of Social Welfare, Tourism, Arts and Culture Textile, Government of Meghalaya, Paul Lyngdoh.
Badap Hynniewta’s journey to this achievement has been a remarkable one. Born in a small town in Meghalaya, his career led him to the bustling cities of Bangalore and Delhi, where he refined his skills and faced numerous challenges. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “God Almighty has been guiding me throughout my career. My unwavering commitment and hard work have ultimately shaped who I am today.”
With over 17 years of experience in makeup, hairstyling, and aesthetics, Badap felt a strong urge to return to his roots in Shillong. After spending more than two decades away from home, he decided it was time to bring his expertise back to his beloved hometown.
Badap Hynniewta’s illustrious career includes collaborations with top brands such as IL&FS Skill India Delhi, Javed Habib, and MAC Cosmetics. He served as an Assistant Professor at Pearl Academy, Delhi, and is a Certified Assessor from NSDC Skills India. His portfolio encompasses music videos, portfolios, magazines, runway and editorial shows, and lookbook shoots. He has led makeup teams at prestigious events like Lakme India Fashion Week and Lotus India Fashion Week and contributed to philanthropic fashion events organised by the United Nations Women’s Association.
His freelance work is equally impressive, with contributions to platforms like Myntra, Vogue, and Style Cruze, and recent projects with T-Series and Netflix’s Bollywood Wives series. His clientele includes notable personalities such as Kalli Purie, Koel Puri, and Kalyani Chawla. Renowned for his expertise in headgear, creative, bridal, Avant-Garde, and prosthetic makeup, Badap draws inspiration from his upbringing in Meghalaya’s vibrant tribal culture.
