Boko: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the new building of the Mallangkona Police Outpost under the West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya on Friday.
Joining him for the inauguration were Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, MLA R G Momin, DGP Meghalaya Idashisha Nongrang, MDC Gigur Myrthong, and other senior officials of the police department.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasised that the safety and security of the state’s residents is a top priority for the government.
“This has been a long-pending demand of the people of Mallangkona to have a police outpost. The establishment of a new police outpost sends a very strong message that the safety and security of our people are important,” said Conrad Sangma.
He further mentioned that similar police setups would be established in other critical locations across the state to ensure the protection of citizens. The Chief Minister highlighted that having the outpost in an area close to the border with Assam would instill a sense of security in the people and help prevent untoward incidents.
“The state government is actively engaged with the government of Assam to resolve areas of differences, and we are working on resolving the next six areas of differences,” he said. Sangma assured that the government is aware of the difficulties faced by people living in border areas and is committed to addressing these issues to improve their lives.
The new Mallangkona Police Outpost was constructed through the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF), which allows Superintendents of Police to utilize flexible funds for repairs and new constructions at the district level without needing state government approval.
“This is a very good and great example of the society coming together and sending a very strong message to the state. I would like to encourage other locations where such projects come up for the community to come forward and be part of the project. It sends a very strong message,” said the chief minister.
Newly appointed DGP Meghalaya, Idashisha Nongrang, expressed her happiness with the peaceful nature of the Mallangkona area during her first visit. SP West Khasi Hills District, Bikram Sangma, noted that the outpost covers 19 villages and is adjacent to Assam’s Kamrup District.

He also emphasised the successful implementation of the PIRF scheme in various police stations and outposts, except for the Langpih police outpost, which is still under development.
The Mallangkona Police Outpost, established in 2019, was constructed with an investment of Rs 17.5 lakhs under the PIRF scheme in Mallangkona village, Mawsynrut Civil Sub-Division, West Khasi District of Meghalaya.
