Shillong: Continuous rainfall over the past days has severely disrupted life in Meghalaya, affecting over 3,000 people across the state.
The rain, driven by the South West Monsoon, has caused widespread disruption.
According to data released by the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) on Tuesday, 3,037 people across 42 villages in six districts have been impacted since the rains began on June 10.
The MSDMA reported that the incessant rainfall has destroyed 36 structures, including 17 houses, and caused crop damage across 4.45 hectares.
West Garo Hills experienced the most severe impact, with 24 villages affected and over 2,825 people displaced. Additionally, two houses were completely destroyed, and affected families were shifted to relief centres in Tura.
In South West Khasi Hills, monsoon rains from June 10 to June 17 caused widespread damage, with 11 villages affected, over 13 houses damaged, and 88 people displaced. Tragically, eleven cattle belonging to Tonel Iawphniaw of Rangthong village were killed by a lightning strike.
East Khasi Hills reported one village affected, resulting in one fatality due to drowning.
East Jaiñtia Hills saw one village affected and over 107 people impacted, with 3.45 hectares of crops destroyed. Additionally, two structures were damaged, and over 1 hectare of agricultural land was destroyed.
West Khasi Hills reported three villages affected, resulting in one fatality and impacting over 11 others.

Landslides and flash floods have also been reported in West Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills. In South Garo Hills, a section of the road at Darang Boldak village near Siju was washed away, disrupting road connectivity between Nangalbibra and Baghmara, as well as travel from Williamnagar to Baghmara via Nangalbibra.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that extremely heavy rainfall is expected to lash Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh this week.
