Shillong: The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has granted a special exemption for Meghalaya from the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) (UG) 2024 for the academic session 2024-2025.
This decision came after several issues related to the conduct of the CUET (UG) 2024 examination by the National Testing Agency (NTA) were brought to the state government’s attention.
A review meeting involving NTA, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) officials, and the State Education Department was conducted to address these concerns.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that many students had not registered for the CUET (UG) 2024 examination. Additionally, many registered students did not appear for the examination, and some who did take the exam had not appeared for all mandatory papers.

There were also reports of mismanagement at the NEHU Centre during the conduct of CUET (UG) 2024, which were brought to the notice of the Chief Minister.
As a result, the State Government announced that CUET scores would not be required for admission to colleges in Meghalaya affiliated with NEHU for the academic session 2024-2025. Admissions will instead be based on students’ performance in their Board examinations, as has been the practice in previous years.
