Shillong: Cyclone Remal has caused significant destruction in Meghalaya, resulting in one fatality and four injuries.
A 27-year-old man, identified as Ohimonmi Nongtdu, tragically lost his life when a retaining wall collapsed onto his house in Sutnga village, East Jaiñtia Hills.

In another incident, four individuals were injured in a landslide at Mawkynroh Bypass in East Khasi Hills District. All injured persons have been transported to NEIGRIHMS for medical treatment, officials reported.
A morning bulletin from the State Disaster Management Authority indicated that 17 villages have been affected by the severe cyclonic storm. The bulletin detailed extensive damage caused by the cyclone.

In Shillong, areas such as Pynthorumkhrah, Nongmensong, and Mawlai-Nongpdeng experienced flood-like conditions, particularly in low-lying regions of the city.
Police have been working around the clock to ensure public safety. First responders from the Nongpoh Traffic Branch were seen clearing uprooted trees obstructing the National Highway near Umling village.
