Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday took stock of the situation following a massive thunderstorm across Meghalaya. The chief minister has advised all the Deputy Commissioners to immediately take necessary steps.
Last year, as a strategic policy move, the state government opted to decentralize the relief process implementation. Presently, Deputy Commissioners possess the autonomy to approve relief materials or funds without necessitating clearance from the state authorities.
“They can independently take decentralized steps at their own level, including the distribution of basic relief materials and various housing support measures, such as distributing CGI sheets. This freedom has been granted, along with funds, to the Deputy Commissioners. Just this morning, the Chief Secretary conducted a comprehensive review of the situation, and after being briefed, we have allocated the next 24 to 48 hours for them to complete the entire relief process. We are fully committed to addressing the situation,” mentioned Sangma.
