Baghmara: In an impressive display of police work involving multiple stations in South Garo Hills (SGH), Meghalaya, an abducted construction worker was rescued after a 45-hour search and rescue operation.
The construction worker, identified as Akhilesh Chauhan, was abducted just outside his camp in Rongdik near Karukol.
Not only was Chauhan safely rescued from his captors, but the police also managed to apprehend two members of the gang responsible for his kidnapping.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 20, around 1:40 AM, when Chauhan was taken by the group who had approached the camp under the guise of seeking diesel.
When the manager of the firm asked Chauhan to look into the matter, he was waylaid by the group and abducted.
The police identified two additional accomplices involved in the crime, and efforts to locate them are currently underway.
The two individuals arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Wilban M Sangma (30) from the village of Durabanda Songgital, SGH, and Withmil S Marak (29) from the village of Upper Dosgre, Mindikgre, SGH.

“The accused had two more accomplices who were at a different location to make ransom calls following the kidnapping. We are on the lookout for these two. A case under relevant sections has been registered at the Siju PS,” informed superintendent of police, SGH, Shailendra Bamaniya.
Chauhan, employed by the firm contracted for road and bridge construction in the district, has been reported safe following his ordeal.
