Shillong: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has put forth a project exceeding Rs 10 crore aimed at rejuvenating Iewduh market, a prominent trading hub in the region.
Outgoing NEC Secretary, Moses Chalai, highlighted the necessity of enhancing and beautifying Iewduh market during discussions with journalists.
Chalai emphasised his personal familiarity with the Iewduh market and stressed the need for an overhaul, particularly focusing on the outdated water system.
Chalai mentioned plans for a comprehensive revamp of the market’s infrastructure, indicating a forthcoming transformation.

The NEC has requested the government to reassess the Detailed Project Report (DPR) before initiating the project, underscoring the importance of meticulous planning.
While funds from the NEC are pending release pending finalisation of the DPR, indications suggest that work on the Iewduh market upliftment project could commence within the next two to three months.
