Shillong: Following the Meghalaya High Court order to conduct surprise checks on Army vehicles after allegations that drugs are sometimes transported in military trucks, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said the government is currently studying and trying to work out on the measures to take.
Rymbui said after receiving the high court order, the chief minister, along with home minister, is studying the order.
“As of now, it is too premature to reply on the issue. But for the interest of the state, we don’t want such kind of illegal activities to come into the state. It is the duty of the state to check drug menace,” he said.

Asked if it is a serious concern when such allegations are coming to light, Rymbui said that they don’t have the information but after the high court order, it is the duty of the government to ensure strict measures are taken.
Concerning checking even vehicles with ML 01 number plate (registered state government vehicles), Rymbui said that he was unaware of such claims but assured that if any transportation of illegal consignment is taking place then, irrespective of any government or private vehicle, due process of law should be followed and action taken against such persons.
