Imphal: A combined team of the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) on Monday conducted cordon-and-search operations in Kangpokpi district, police said.
During the operation, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and other items from J Songtun village, according to the police.
According to an official, the recovered weapons include two country-made 12-bore guns, 14 number of 12-bore guns bearing various manufacturers, serial and licence markings, 1,225 rounds of 12-bore ammunition and other warfare items.
The official also said that during the withdrawal of the security forces, residents of J Songtun village, especially women, blocked the road with stones and demanded return of the unverified firearms and ammunition. However, the security forces managed to disperse the crowd and the situation was brought under control, it said.

Similarly, a team of Commando Kakching Police conducted a search operation at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East and arrested an active cadre of RPF/PLA along with weapons from his residence. The arrested cadre has been identified as Nameirakpam Sanju Meitei alias Nganba, 35, son of (L) N Warjit Meetei.
The seized weapons include one AK Rifle, one SMG Carbine, nine magazines of different arms, 737 ammunition rounds of different calibers, three bullet proof plates and another three bullet proof jackets.The recovered items have been hande over to the police and further investigation is underway, it added.
