Imphal: Preparations are in full swing for the Imphal leg of the 135th Durand Cup, with the Indian Army on Saturday hosting a media interaction to brief journalists on the upcoming tournament and the arrangements being made to ensure the successful conduct of Asia’s oldest football competition.
The interaction brought together senior Indian Army officials and members of the media, who were briefed on the tournament schedule, participating teams, venue readiness, security arrangements, and coordination with the Manipur government and other stakeholders.
Officials highlighted the Durand Cup’s rich legacy as India’s oldest football tournament, organised by the Indian Armed Forces, and its role in promoting sporting excellence, discipline, teamwork and national integration.
The Imphal leg of the tournament will feature FC Raengdai, Indian Navy Football Team (INFT), NEROCA FC and TRAU FC. Matches will begin on July 28, 2026, at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
Ahead of the tournament, the Durand Cup Trophy Tour and Showcase will be held on July 15, while a women’s exhibition match is scheduled for July 21 at the SAI Football Ground in Imphal.
Army officials said extensive preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and secure tournament, with close coordination among civil authorities, security agencies and event organisers.
