Senapati: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with leaders of the United Naga Council (UNC) at DC office in Senapati district on Wednesday. This is his second visit to Senapati district after assuming the Chief Minister’s office by road.
During his visit, CM Khemchand held a closed-door meeting with the UNC representatives, led by its president NG Lorho.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister urged the leaders of the Naga apex body to lift the ongoing economic blockade along the National Highway and help bring peace in the state.
The UNC is currently imposing blockade on the NH 2 demanding four-charter of demands to the government, including abrogation of SoO agreements with Kuki armed groups, declaring KNF (P) as a terrorist organisation, removal of Nemcha Kipgen as Deputy CM and arrest of all perpetrators of Leilan Vaiphei village including its chief who involved in the killing of six Naga hostages whose dismembered bodies recovered on June 10.
Though the meeting was inconclusive, UNC president termed the meeting as a “fruitful and meaningful talk”. The Naga leader also warned for further agitation if the state government failed to address the issue.
