Manipur: Man injured in suspected militant ambush in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi: A resident of Konsakhul Naga village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur sustained bullet injuries in an alleged ambush carried out by suspected militants.

The injured person, identified as Kachiaklung Chawang, 25, has been evacuated to Imphal for further treatment.

Strongly condemning the attack, the Konsakhul Village Authority stated that the barbaric and inhumane attack was carried out by KNF (P) militants in collaboration with Leilon Vaiphei villagers against innocent civilians of Konsakhul Naga Village at around 10:30 am on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the village authority, this reprehensible act was preceded by the deliberate cutting of the water supply line serving Konsakhul Village, an essential public utility upon which the villagers depend for daily needs.

When residents proceeded to restore the disrupted water supply, they claimed that the unarmed villagers were mercilessly ambushed without any provocation.

During the attack, one villager sustained serious injuries, while several others remain missing.

“The assault on innocent civilians on a Sunday, a sacred day of worship and prayer for Christians, is not only deplorable but also constitutes a grave violation of human rights and Christian principles. Such acts of violence have created an atmosphere of fear, insecurity and distress among the peaceful residents of Konsakhul Village, it stated.

It further stated that the trauma and suffering inflicted upon the people of Konsakhul have yet to heal from the abduction of 18 innocent Naga civilians by KNF (P) militants and Leilon Vaiphei villagers. To this day, the whereabouts of six hostages remain unknown.

The perpetration of yet another violent attack against the village while families continue to endure the anguish of uncertainty is beyond human tolerance and reflects a complete disregard for human dignity and the rule of law, the village authority said.

The Konsakhul Village Authority further called upon the concerned authorities to take immediate and decisive measures to ensure the safety and security of the villagers, restore all essential services without delay, conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and bring all those responsible for this reprehensible act to justice.

The Village Authority also appealed to all responsible institutions, civil society organizations and human rights bodies to take cognizance of this grave situation and extend their support in safeguarding the lives, rights and dignity of the people of Konsakhul.
