Imphal: Manipur Police, in partnership with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has launched a community-driven initiative in Churachandpur district titled ‘HinChi’—meaning “Seeds of Life”—symbolising hope and new beginnings, a police official said.

According to officials, three sensitive regions within the district, identified as vulnerable to illicit poppy cultivation, were strategically targeted under the initiative.

Through sustained engagement, village chiefs and 127 beneficiary households were taken into confidence and encouraged to transition to sustainable and lawful livelihood options through alternative cash crops.

Under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the project received funding support of ₹28 lakh from Chennai-based technology firm Segula Technologies.

With this support, Manipur Police facilitated the distribution of approximately 55,000 kg of ginger seeds, 450 kg of pea seeds and 6,500 banana saplings to identified beneficiaries.

Officials added that joint teams comprising Manipur Police, the NCB and local NGO NARPS will undertake periodic monitoring to ensure accountability. The teams will also provide continuous guidance and support farmers in post-harvest management and market linkages.

“HinChi stands as a testament to collective resolve—transforming risk into resilience and paving the way for a safer, self-reliant future,” the official said.
