New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the construction of five thousand new houses for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY–G).
Chouhan approved the new houses for IDPs affected by the law and order crisis (ethnic violence) for the financial year 2025–26 after meeting Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh last evening at his residence here in New Delhi.
The state’s two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, accompanied Khemchand while meeting the Union Rural Development Minister.
Chouhan warmly received the three Manipuri leaders and assured all help in their bid to bring peace and normalcy to the state.
Earlier this month, the state government submitted a proposal for a special project under PMAY-G for the construction of 5,000 houses for IDPs affected by the ethnic violence.
The Union Rural Development Ministry has also approved a special window of the Awas+ 2024 household survey for capturing the details of eligible affected households. The state government has further been allowed to continue the process of registration of eligible affected beneficiaries under the special project of PMAY-G.
The Union Rural Development Ministry, however, directed the state government that beneficiaries must be identified for the special project as per the guidelines of PMAY-G, and that the identification and uploading of details of eligible beneficiaries be completed through the Awas+ 2024 mobile app. These houses shall be constructed as per the provisions of the Framework for Implementation (FFI) of PMAY-G.
The state government has also been allowed to sanction houses for eligible beneficiaries under the special project to whom assistance (one or more instalments) was released earlier under PMAY-G, but whose houses were destroyed during the ethnic violence.
