Imphal: The Class 12 board examinations for 2026 conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) began on Tuesday across 117 examination centres in both hill and valley districts of Manipur. The examinations will continue till March 20.
Students were seen arriving at examination centres early in the morning, while anxious parents waited outside the premises. Authorities put in place screening measures to ensure transparency and prevent malpractice before candidates were allowed to enter the halls.
According to Oinam Joy Singh, Controller of Examinations, a total of 31,530 students are appearing for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations this year. Of them, 15,908 are male and 15,622 are female candidates.
Out of the total candidates, 31,221 are regular students, while 309 are appearing as casual and private candidates.
Officials said 18,940 students are from private higher secondary schools, 9,804 from government higher secondary institutions, and 2,618 from private colleges. There are no candidates from government-run colleges appearing for the examinations this year.
Stream-wise, 23,146 students are from the Science stream, 7,697 from Arts, and 687 from Commerce, according to official data.
