Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the Passing Out Parade of Recruit Constables (MR/IRBn) of the Manipur Police held at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Dergaon, Assam, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Government of Assam for arranging basic training for the large contingents of Manipur Police during a challenging period for the state. He also acknowledged Assam’s support in providing the necessary space for training newly recruited personnel from Manipur.

The Chief Minister noted that due to the unprecedented crisis in the state, many family members and guardians of the recruits could not attend the event. However, with ministers and MLAs participating in the Passing Out Parade, the state government represented the people of Manipur in celebrating the success of the recruits.
He extended his appreciation to the Director General of Police, Government of Assam, and senior officers who devoted their efforts to providing quality training to the recruits. He highlighted that with their dedication and the facilities at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, the recruits had become well-trained personnel ready to serve.

Recounting past efforts, the Chief Minister recalled approaching Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his first term, requesting additional state security forces to guard the long stretches of National Highways passing through Manipur. Following this, the Central Government approved the formation of two Indian Reserve Battalions. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and other central leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, for their continued support and concern for Manipur.
The Chief Minister mentioned that while the recruitment process was conducted earlier, the declaration of results was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The process resumed once the state recovered from the pandemic.
Addressing the newly trained personnel, N. Biren Singh urged them to share their training experiences with their families and communities, emphasizing unity during their training regardless of community differences. He encouraged them to be beacons of peace and tranquility in Manipur.
The Chief Minister reminded the recruits that once they don their uniforms, they become representatives of the nation, transcending community boundaries. He urged them to remain committed to the nation.
He also informed that transport arrangements for the recruits’ return to Manipur were made according to their convenience, with options including flights, buses, and trains. He wished them a safe journey and encouraged them to maintain the unity and teamwork demonstrated during their training.
The event was attended by the Governor of Assam and Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya; ministers and MLAs from both states; the DGP of Assam; senior police officials; parents and guardians of the recruits; and other dignitaries.
