Jiribam: In a disturbing development, security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district recovered the bodies of a woman and two children on Friday evening, according to reliable sources.
The bodies were found floating near the confluence of the Jiri and Barak rivers, approximately 16 km from where six people went missing following violence in Jiribam on November 11.
Sources confirmed that the bodies have been transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam, about 50 km from Jiribam, for autopsy and identification.
Although the bloated bodies remain unidentified, authorities suspect they are likely among the six missing persons—three women and three children—all belonging to the Meitei community who were reportedly taken hostage by Kuki insurgents on Monday.
Photographs of the bodies have been taken, and authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report for official identification.
On Friday evening, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh convened an emergency cabinet meeting to review the situation in the state.
