Bishnupur: As part of ongoing efforts to empower women and the community, the Indian Army, in partnership with Aseem Foundation, a Pune-based NGO focused on education, entrepreneurship, and development, has established a Yarn Bank in Toronglaobi village, Bishnupur district, Manipur.
The initiative, launched under Operation Sadbhavana, was officially handed over to the villagers on Wednesday.
According to an Army official, the Yarn Bank aims to promote skill development and self-reliance among local women, offering essential resources to support their livelihoods.
The facility includes seven traditional looms and a range of yarn materials such as cotton, polyester, acrylic, and silk. It is also furnished with display stands, boards, screens, and essential furniture to meet the needs of the weavers, the official added.
The official further stated that the Yarn Bank infrastructure provides all women from the region, including Veer Naris and war widows, access to skill-building opportunities and income-generating activities.
The project was inaugurated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, with other distinguished guests in attendance, including representatives from Aseem Foundation, Army officers, village chiefs, and ex-servicemen. Community leaders and local women expressed their gratitude for the Army’s dedicated efforts to uplift the community, particularly its focus on empowering women.
The Yarn Bank reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering sustainable employment and supporting women’s empowerment in the region. Through such initiatives, the Army strengthens local skill development infrastructure, paving the way for a brighter, more self-sufficient future for women and the community at large.
