Imphal: In a significant development amid the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, ruling legislators from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities are set to meet in New Delhi on Tuesday, officials said.

This will be the first such meeting of ruling legislators after ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 last year. The meeting is being held under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), officials added.

The talks are part of the Centre’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between the warring communities and seek a resolution to the more-than-year-and-a-half-long ethnic crisis in the state, an official aware of the development said.

The MHA has invited the legislators, including the Kuki MLAs, to the meeting in a bid to initiate dialogue amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the official informed.

Sources also indicated that three Naga MLAs—Awangbou Newmai, Loshii Dikho, and Ram Muivah—will attend the talks tomorrow, scheduled for 1:30 PM in Delhi. MLA Ram Muivah is already in the national capital for personal reasons, sources added.

All three Naga MLAs invited to the meeting belong to the Naga People’s Front (NPF), an ally of the BJP-led state government.

Meanwhile, several Meitei BJP MLAs, including Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, left for Delhi on Sunday. Additional Meitei MLAs and ministers are scheduled to leave Imphal today, sources confirmed.
