Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday informed that both the state and central governments are closely monitoring the case of three Meitei youths abducted by Kuki militants. While one youth has been released, the other two are still being held hostage.
Chief Minister Biren Singh made the statement during a floral tribute program honoring Jana Neta Hijam Irawat at Hijam Irawat Square in Imphal West.
“The state and central governments are monitoring the situation round the clock and are working collectively, exploring every possible effort for the safe return of the two individuals,” the chief minister stated.
He further informed that the Director General of Police, Manipur, had been rushed to the area in the hope of achieving a positive outcome.
According to Manipur Police, in connection with the case of the two Meitei youths who were allegedly abducted by unknown Kuki miscreants on September 27 in Kangpokpi district, both state and central security forces are making every effort to rescue the missing youths as quickly as possible. Senior police officers are critically monitoring the situation, the police added.
It is worth noting that three youths from Imphal went missing on September 27 while traveling to New Keithelmanbi to participate in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) GD recruitment test. However, they accidentally took a wrong turn, leading them to Kangpokpi district, a Kuki-dominated area.
After their families lost contact with them, an intensive search was launched, which resulted in the rescue of Ningombam Johnson Singh, one of the missing individuals, by security personnel stationed at Leimakhong. He was handed over to his family by Imphal West Police.
However, the search continues for the remaining two missing youths, identified as Oinam Thoithoi Singh from Thoubal Leishangthem Awang Leikai and Thokchom Thoithoiba Singh from Thoubal Khekman Wangmataba Mayai Leikai.
Manipur Police, in collaboration with central security forces, is making all-out efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the missing youths as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a viral video showing the two missing youths appealing to Chief Minister N Biren Singh for their rescue surfaced on Sunday. To address and discuss the ongoing issue, CM Biren Singh convened a meeting with both ruling and opposition legislators.
