Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested 33 people, including seven juveniles, in connection with recent violent protests across the Imphal Valley over the past few days.
According to a police report, the arrests were made following investigations into the violent protests. Legal proceedings will be initiated against those arrested, police said.
Authorities expressed concern over the involvement of juveniles in the protests, stating that the incidents were allegedly instigated by unknown individuals. Highlighting the presence of underage protesters, police urged parents to closely monitor their children and prevent them from staying out late, especially at protest sites.
Police also appealed to the public to refrain from unlawful activities and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order.
In response to the fresh violence, a curfew has been imposed, and a five-day internet blackout has been enforced in the valley districts to restore law and order.
The valley districts, including Imphal West and Imphal East, have come to a standstill as the curfew continues for the third consecutive day. Most private vehicles remain off the roads, except for medical emergencies. Attendance at government offices is also reportedly low.

On Tuesday, massive student protests were held, with demonstrators from various schools and colleges marching toward Raj Bhawan, protesting the state and central government’s handling of the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The protesters also demanded that the Unified Command, currently overseeing the state’s security situation, be handed over to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Clashes between protesters and security forces left over 70 students injured, along with 10 police personnel.
