Imphal: On Wednesday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed the House that a total of Rs 348.24 crore has been sanctioned for the Operation of Relief Camps Scheme.
Addressing a question raised by MLA Th Lokeshwar Singh, Singh clarified that the funds were allocated through Deputy Commissioners of the districts, who oversee the distribution of basic necessities to the Relief Centres via committees formed for each centre’s convenience.
In response to a query from MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the Chief Minister explained that previously, stipends for representatives of UG/militant groups under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) were issued through cheques due to the lack of individual bank accounts for the cadres. Singh noted that these stipends have not been disbursed since 2022, as account verifications are still pending. He assured the House that this process does not violate transparency standards.
Regarding the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), Singh reported that it is operational in 102 Police Stations and 115 higher offices across the State.
In his response to MLA Surjakumar Okram, Singh highlighted the State Government’s ongoing efforts with the Government of India to expedite the construction of the Indo-Myanmar border fence. He detailed that the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned the first phase of the border fencing project on February 23, 2010, and the State Government has since submitted two proposals for additional vulnerable areas requiring attention.
Addressing MLA K Ranjit Singh’s query, Singh confirmed that both State and Central forces are stationed in vulnerable areas of the State. The Government has also appealed to village volunteers to lay down arms and assist in restoring peace and harmony.
