Ukhrul: One NSCN-IM cadre was killed during a fierce gunfight with the Myanmar-based Kuki militant group KNA (B) on Saturday, according to an official report. The deceased has been identified as Captain RS Winson from Ngainga village in Ukhrul district. He was posted at the Eastern Flank (Nagalim) of the Naga Army at the time of the incident.
In a condolence message, Lieutenant General A Raman, MC, Deputy Longvibu of the Naga Army, extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and stated that the cadre had laid down his life in the line of duty for the greater cause of the Naga people. The message also highlighted Captain Winson’s bravery and dedication to his duty.
Captain Winson’s body was handed over to his family members for burial on Monday.
According to an official statement, the gunfight between the NSCN-IM and the KNA (B) group occurred along the Angko Ching Range on the Myanmar side at around 6:30 PM. Captain Winson, who was commanding the Naga Army during the skirmish, succumbed to bullet injuries at the scene.
The National Socialist Council of Nagaland has accused the Indian security forces of utilizing the Kuki militant group (KNA-B) as a proxy to undermine the Naga movement and wage war against the Nagas.
