Imphal: A total of 38 Myanmar nationals, who had earlier entered Manipur illegally, were deported to their country through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh on Tuesday.
According to official reports, the Myanmar nationals, including six children and eleven women, were safely handed over to Myanmar authorities. They had been lodged at the foreigners’ detention centre in Sajiwa Jail for several years after being arrested for entering the Indian state illegally.
“In continuation of the deportation process of immigrants, the Government of Manipur has deported 38 Myanmar nationals to their home country Myanmar through the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Moreh, today,” Chief Minister N. Biren Singh posted on Facebook.
The Chief Minister further stated that the nationals were safely handed over to Myanmar authorities by Immigration Officers of the Government of India posted at ICP Moreh.
The State Government is continuing the identification of illegal immigrants and remains steadfast in its resolve to deport them. “Let’s keep our borders and country secure,” he added.
It is worth noting that following the unrest in neighbouring Myanmar, many Myanmarese crossed over to Manipur and other neighbouring states to seek refuge.
