Tripura: 21-yr-old allegedly thrashed to death after failed elopement bid

Ukhrul: In a tragic accident on Sunday afternoon, four people, including a driver, lost their lives when the van they were traveling in fell into a gorge in Ukhrul district.

The incident occurred between Maichon and L Phungthar (Lamyim Phungthar) villages under LM Block. The vehicle plunged into a gorge while navigating a narrow road and fell into a nearby river.

The deceased have been identified as Ningyo Raikhan (38), Yarsing Lungleng (10), Ngacheingam Lungleng (12), both sons of Katuishang Lungleng of L Phungthar, and Wortha Kashung (8), son of Shimphungrim village.

Two other passengers were injured in the accident. Chihangam (13) sustained head injuries and a broken leg but is reported to be out of danger. Sokhanwung Yangya (11) is in critical condition. Both injured were initially brought to Ukhrul and later admitted to JNIMS hospital in Imphal.

The vehicle was left irretrievable due to the severity of the accident. The exact cause of the mishap is yet to be determined.
