Imphal: In a tense turn of events in the Imphal East constituency, a polling official became the target of threats from miscreants, leading to an argument between Congress candidate Bimol Akhoijam and police officials. The incident unfolded at the Kyamgei Heibong Makhong High School polling station, casting a shadow over the electoral process.
Earlier in the day, Akhoijam, a JNU professor, along with his wife and family members, exercised their franchise at Ram Lal Higher Secondary School in Keishamthong, Imphal West. Speaking to EastMojo, Akhoijam fervently appealed to the public to step out of their homes and actively participate in the democratic process, urging them to carefully consider the kind of government they envision for the next five years.
“I want people to have the opportunity to vote peacefully, as this is the only chance citizens have to decide the fate of how our place is governed and who our representative will be,” he stated, emphasising the significance of exercising the right to vote.

As the nation goes to poll for the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 47 constituencies in Manipur are participating in the first phase of voting, with 32 Assembly segments for the Inner seat and 15 Assembly constituencies under the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency casting their ballots.
