Imphal: In a joint operation conducted by the Imphal West police, commandos, and the 33 Assam Rifles, a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the Imphal West district, Manipur, on Sunday.
The operation, part of measures for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, resulted in the confiscation of various weapons and explosive devices.
According to an official report, the search operation, supervised by the SP Imphal West, was conducted in the Uchiwa Lamhang area under the Mayang Imphal region of Imphal West district.
The recovered items were concealed amidst tall grasses near fish farms.
The recovered cache, wrapped in clothes and stored in gunny bags and carry bags, included two SBBL guns, four No.36 HE hand grenades, two tube launchers, two Kenwood W/T sets, one locally-made 9 mm pistol with a magazine, five 7.62 mm SLR ammunition rounds, 21 .303 rifle ammunition rounds, 24 .38 revolver ammunition rounds, one ammunition charger guard, one SLR with a magazine, and one Carbine with a magazine.

No arrests were made during the operation, as the items were suspected to have been hidden several days prior, the police stated.
Police said that these weapons were suspected to be used for activities such as extortion, kidnapping, and assassination, aimed at disrupting the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and instigating law and order issues in the state.
