Imphal: Three candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), and Republican Party of India (Athawale) have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at the office of the Returning Officer at Imphal West DC office on Wednesday.
BJP candidate Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, who currently serves as the minister for law & legislative affairs and education in Manipur, was accompanied by chief minister N Biren Singh, MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, ministers and MLAs during his filing of nomination amid tight security. A former IPS officer, Basanta is also the son of former Union minister Th Chaoba Singh from Nambol constituency.
Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination paper, BJP candidate Basanta has sought the public’s unwavering support in the forthcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024. He also expressed his confidence that the BJP party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will emerge as a thumping majority in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
“It is my humble appeal to the public to extend their support to BJP as we will form the government for the third time in the Center. Let us work together and find a solution in the state,” said Basanta.
Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a distinguished Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, has also filed his nomination as a Congress candidate for the Inner seat. Akoijam, who arrived at the Imphal West DC office after the BJP candidate, was accompanied by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra, Congress MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh and other party workers.
Akoijam, who has been very vocal, especially during the ongoing crisis in Manipur, has informed that his top priority after he is elected as an MP would be to ensure that all the displaced persons in the crisis return to their respective homes.
“To secure not only their life and property but with a sense of dignity and well-being after they return to their respective home and original places,” Akoijam said.
Thounaojam Maheshwar, who is currently serving as the national secretary of RPI, also filed his nomination paper at the Imphal West DC office.
On Monday, Rajkumar Somendro Singh, a well-known Manipuri actor, also filed his nomination papers for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Parliamentary Election, 2024. Popularly known as Kaiku, an actor turned politician is contesting from Manipur People’s Party (MPP) for the Inner Manipur constituency.
