Senapati: The United Naga Council (UNC), a prominent Naga organisation in Manipur, convened a consultative meeting on Tuesday with intending Naga candidates for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election, specifically for the Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
The meeting took place at the UNC headquarters in Tahamzam (Senapati) district.
The UNC stated that the purpose of the meeting was to foster unity among the Naga community in light of the current circumstances. “Given the current time and situation, it is crucial for a Naga representative to advocate for our people in the Lok Sabha, and thus, the consultative meeting has been called to ensure this,” said the UNC in an official notification.
Eight aspiring Naga candidates from various hill districts, along with their respective tribal presidents, participated in the closed-door meeting, which commenced at around 12 noon.
Among the candidates vying for the Naga People’s Front (NPF) ticket are four individuals, including the incumbent Outer Manipur MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze. The other three candidates include K Timothy Zimik, a former Income Tax Principal Chief Commissioner; Kho John, former UNC president; and Samuel Risom, Central Working President of NPF and former MLA from Ukhrul AC constituency.
On the other hand, three other aspiring Naga candidates seeking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket includes Lanjaigai Kamson, a seasoned politician and president of ST Morcha BJP Manipur; Dr Alyson Abonmai, a social activist and musician; and Saveio Khole, the youngest among the candidates, who currently serves as the vice-president of Manipur BJP youth wing.

K Dharmasing, a social worker from Ukhrul district, also participated in the meeting. However, his affiliation with a specific political party for the Lok Sabha polls is yet to be confirmed.
According to sources, Dr Adim Pamei, a BJP party worker, and former Congress MLA Alfred Khanngam S Arthur are also reportedly contesting the Lok Sabha elections. However, neither of them attended the UNC meeting.
