Manipur: Terrifying video of children caught in gunfire while playing football goes viral

Imphal: A distressing video capturing a group of school students playing football in Pukhao, Manipur, has gone viral on social media. The students found themselves caught in the crossfire of gunfights on Tuesday, forcing them to seek refuge in nearby bushes.

In the video, the frightened students recount playing on a nearby ground when they heard bullets landing dangerously close. With no safe escape, the boys rushed towards nearby bushes to hide from the unfolding violence.

The video captured the students expressing their relief at escaping unharmed, emphasizing how the bullets landed perilously close, just across the stream from their hiding spot.

Tuesday marked a day of prolonged gunfights between two armed rival groups on the outskirts of Imphal East and Kangpokpi district, continuing into the evening.

Tragically, the exchange of fire resulted in the loss of at least two lives, with five others, including an Indian Army officer, sustaining bullet injuries.

Police officials reported that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the 20 Jat Regiment suffered a bullet injury while advancing towards the periphery where the gunfights were reported.

The injured army officer was promptly airlifted to the military hospital in Leimakhong and is currently reported to be out of danger.
