Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 are just around the corner and among the candidates who have filed their nominations is Ningthoujam Popilal Singh.
The twenty-six-year-old is the youngest candidate contesting the polls. Not only that, but he is also the only candidate who has zero assets.
Singh filed his nomination for the state general election as an NCP candidate from Sekmai Assembly constituency (AC) at the office of RO 16-Sekmai AC on Monday.
As per the affidavit submitted by him, Singh, originally from Phayeng Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, is a cultivator by profession and does not have any source of income.
Singh has claimed in his affidavit that he has neither any movable nor immovable assets with no cash in hand or/and any liquid assets. The affidavit also mentioned that he has a pending defamation case for a crime he allegedly committed in 2018.
The candidate did his graduation from Manipur University and was also a contender for an INC ticket for Sekmai AC, which was given to Ningthoujam Biren Singh.
It was due to his being denied the INC ticket that Singh resigned from the Congress party and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
